… under the hot sun, even taking a breath seemed an effort. With his mind focused on his personal revenge, the silent man faced the heat and kept moving… The terrain was uneven and put him to test many times. Skilled with bow and proficient in close combat, he could only hope to survive the journey first, in order to fulfill the promise he made to himself…
This is a fiction inspired by BORIS VALLEJO, MAD MAX MOVIES (1,2,3, FURY ROAD). Special thanks to István DEMETER providing props and expertise with the bow!

PS: … this by far is an imperfect story. Nevertheless, I wanted to do it. A small team effort was involved and shooting under a hot sun it is not an easy task, anyhow… especially when shade are scarce and the white calcareous rocks reflects the light and heat as well. I chose to shoot this project only with the sun as my main and only light, no other light or light modifier was used. The editing of photos was done in Lightroom 5.7.
… The wet pavement was pitch black and invited me for a walk in that late hour of the night. The air was fresh and I saw no reason t0 inhale and exhale calmly as I strolled downtown in this city. After carefully measuring my steps visually on the sidewalk and listening to the peculiar sound of the shoes made hitting the ground in my lazy walk, I was forced to raise my head due to a bizarre voice coming behind my shoulders… But nobody was behind me… “This is strange”, I said to myself while I scouted the dark street adorned with lots of colorful window showcasing well-known and less-known brands, as well as designer’s collection on various faceless mannequins of uncertain gender… These silent dummies wearing proudly elegant garments were gazing upon my unshaved face as I walked by the shop windows and were spitting from their inanimate heads words, sentences, occasionally even comprehensible phrases… I felt uneasy to shoot them. Yet… I know that to some of you, they might speak just as loud and clear as to me, these silent witnesses of the city life, who change their outfit or even outlook by the season, hear and see us humans walking by… and remain still, almost painfully lifeless before our daily thoughts… They just never age, never need to see a doctor or never fall in love. Next time, please do stare into their frozen faces…who knows, you might feel something uplifting… you might even feel lucky… to be alive. But we both know, dear reader… being alive and LIVE are two different stories… Indeed.
… slowly it passed a year since I published anything on this blog. I am not going to waste time in finding nicely wrapped excuses… get directly into the subject. One of my former student asked last year to take some photos about him. even gave me some hints what he would like… and I ended up getting pretty familiar with the TV series called MAD MEN. Last week we met again and while we sipped our coffee in a new fancy coffee shop recently opened in my town I started to picture in my mind the shooting… The end results can be seen here:
” … Torhild’s day started with a routine… a routine that was precise for the last three years… She was the warrior in charge of guarding the lake and the passage between the hills that connected her homeland with the outer world… The calm sky was peaceful. The frozen lake was a beauty itself to Torhild’s unique blue eye…She was constantly scouting the horizon, while her mind linger time to time on past things… on warm thoughts and strong embraces of a loved one. Nothing seemed to ruin her day… and yet, all signs indicated the invasion of the north’s barbarian horde… Torhild’s calm was broken.. she quickly set up the smoking signals for the nearby watchers in order to call for battle the warriors of the land… ”
This shooting was planned a long time ago, precisely from last year, after the autumn shooting with my model TIMEA. We was waiting for the snow in order to make a winter shooting together, but the winter had other plans… The script has changed a several times, but finally, I found a nice scene, the model agreed to take part in my new idea… and on a Saturday cold winter afternoon we headed to the frozen lake… and above you can see the results…

PS: I know, the fake lightning is pretty obvious, I know… but for the sake of the fantasy I had some fun :). It seemed pretty difficult to control the colored smoke grenades smoke directions… in that waste open land the wind was changing its direction pretty random… nevertheless,it was a great team experience!
stay tuned, I am back in business 🙂
well… like it or not, the new year is not gonna be much different from the old one… unless you make it different! Plans, promises and desires, we got them all a handful. But we need to put effort and work behind them to make them happen… I started this year with an easy shooting, where I was mostly light assistant, driver and it felt good. My goal was to help out Bella, a fellow photographer who organized the shooting, yet capture one shot, that I gradually built up in my mind due some inspiring things over the weeks…
I wish everyone a better year, but hey… don’t just dream!!! Work, create, get inspired and have fun!
WORKING TITLE: URAMI BUSHI
In case you expect to see some nice photos about beautiful models, you came to the wrong place this time. Today I had the chance to document one tradition, that still exist in Transylvania, after my country adhered to EU and accepted its regulations… First I witnessed as a child this tradition and later on my life, moments like this recurred. My intention today was to document the skill and craftsmanship of a well respected butcher near my town, a skill about to be lost in a few years, I think. The story is short… the butcher, together with a priest relative bought a 130 kg pig and this morning the were about to sacrifice it for consumption. The whole process is very efficiently executed, the needed manpower and resources managed well. I myself just pushed the button.. like I always do.
Recently I asked Timea out to pose a bit for me, in order to study her in front of my camera… same day I shot her on film and digital as well… sort of accommodation shooting… so.. patience a bit and stay tuned!
Well… opportunity presented itself and Susan could appear again in front of my lens. It’s been a while since I shot her and a few years ago I made her a promise. Being stubborn by nature and patient by default I was intended to keep that promise. The location was known to me and from our previous chit-chat with the model, I started to draw a short film in my mind about the shooting itself. I wanted to use only available light and start the story slowly, and getting closer to the final shot step by step. Special thanks goes to “Tücsök” who helped me and the model along the shooting… This mutual effort resulted a two mini-series ( a bit chunky, I admit ) and made me aware that I like to direct stories and freeze the movie that’s running in my mind by taking screen-shots as photographs… Let’s see if I managed to waste my time and my model time efficiently! Enjoy!
here, a short break was needed by the both of us…
and the shooting went on after a while…
With this image I ended my shooting… personally I feel I was able to produce more. More, not as quantity but quality… maybe next time. I am still experiencing how to transmit those inner feelings that takes shape in one’s mind, how to bring to light those personas we hide so much under our ego. Perhaps this is why I like photography… the journey to discover myself day by day is just as appealing like discovering the person next to me, or in front of my lens… A final group photo was taken with the people who was present on location an made that beautiful Sunday even more pleasant… 🙂
Thank you all!
… I was already trying out how to use the light, more exactly the flash off-camera back in 2011. This shooting is dear to me, I worked with people I like and got some decent shots, back then. Back than, just like now, I was a newbee in Photoshop, using only Ligtroom to edit my photos… Sometimes I get nostalgic and re-imagine a former shooting, in order to find something to improve, learn something new out if it or just for the fun of remembering it…
